Privacy, explained plainly.

Daughters of India collects only the information needed for specific participation workflows. This notice explains what the current website stores, why it is stored, how Youth Ambassador applications are handled, and where browser-local learning state remains on your own device.

What we collect

School partnership enquiries may include an adult contact's name, role, institution, city/state, work email address and an estimated number of female students.

Volunteer and mentor applications may include an applicant's name, email address, profession or university, city/state, preferred role and a short motivation statement. The online volunteer workflow requires the applicant to confirm that they are 18 or older and to acknowledge the safeguarding process.

Youth Ambassador applications may include the applicant's name, email address, school or college, city/state, age and a short motivation statement. Applications are currently accepted for ages 13–24.

For an applicant under 18, the form also asks for a parent or guardian name and email address and requires the applicant to confirm that the parent or guardian has given permission to apply. That contact is used for guardian follow-up before approval; the applicant's checkbox is an attestation, not independent verification of guardian consent.

To reduce automated abuse, the submission service also creates a one-way SHA-256 hash from limited request metadata for short-lived rate limiting. The intake database does not store a raw IP address in the rate-limit record.

How we use submitted information

School enquiry information is used to review a potential school partnership or workshop request and to contact the institution about that request. Volunteer information is used to review suitability for the role selected and, where relevant, to continue the screening, orientation and safeguarding process.

Youth Ambassador information is used to review an application, assess the proposed school or campus context and follow up about chapter onboarding. For applicants under 18, the guardian contact is used to confirm permission and complete age-appropriate safeguarding before an application can be approved.

We do not use these intake records as advertising profiles and do not sell submitted personal information.

Children and youth submissions

Youth Ambassador applications are open to ages 13–24. Applicants under 18 must provide a parent or guardian contact and attest that they have permission to apply. Under-18 submissions enter a guardian-follow-up state and are not treated as approved merely because the form was submitted.

The Youth Ambassador form asks applicants not to include identity documents or other sensitive personal information in the motivation field. School or campus permissions and safeguarding steps may still be required before any activity begins.

The Volunteer & Mentor online application remains limited to people who confirm they are at least 18 years old. Applicants under 18 should use the Youth Ambassador pathway instead.

Storage and security

Current production intake records are stored in the Daughters of India Supabase project. Browser roles have no direct read or write permission to the intake tables. Website submissions pass through a server-side Edge Function that re-validates inputs, rate-limits repeated requests and performs the database write.

Submission endpoints are restricted to the Daughters of India web origins and do not expose database service credentials to the browser. Database constraints repeat the key length, age and consent rules so client-side validation is not the only control.

Retention and deletion

School, volunteer and Youth Ambassador records are retained while they are needed to review and follow up the relevant enquiry or application. A fixed automatic deletion period for these application records is not yet configured, so records should be reviewed operationally and removed when no longer needed.

Guardian contact information attached to an under-18 Youth Ambassador application is for application and safeguarding follow-up and should be removed with the related application when it is no longer required.

Rate-limit fingerprints are designed to be short-lived and the submission service performs best-effort cleanup of entries older than 24 hours.

You can ask us to access, correct or delete information you submitted by contacting the address below and providing enough information for us to identify the relevant submission.

Learning tools and browser-local state

Some interactive tools save progress or preferences in localStorage or sessionStorage. That state stays in the browser unless a page explicitly states otherwise. It is not a Daughters of India learner account and is not evidence of authenticated progress.
